The Most Depressing Commencement Speech Ever

Posted by Nancy on May 18, 2010

‘Tis the season of graduations and commencement speeches.  The invited speaker addresses those heading out into life, the graduates listen politely (sometimes), and everyone leaves inspired.

Here are a few examples of words of wisdom bestowed upon some recent graduates:

“As you stand here tonight, you are at the starting point of a wonderful journey.” — Michael Dell

“Never give in to pessimism. Don’t know that you can’t fly and you will soar like an eagle.” — Earl Bakken

“You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. You can’t get there by bus, only by hard work and risk and by not quite knowing what you’re doing, but what you’ll discover will be wonderful. What you’ll discover will be yourself. ” — Alan Alda

Then there’s this aggregation of excerpts given by former vice-president (and current  carbon cap-and-trade scammer) Al Gore, at the May 14, 2010 University of Tennessee graduation.

Lord help those having to go forth into the world with all this woe rained down upon them.  Maybe they should just go out and end their miserable lives instead of causing more pollution and global warming.

Rethinking Earth Day

Posted by Nancy on April 22, 2010

It seemed so benign at first - celebate Mother Earth, teach the children not to litter, work for clean air and water……..

How did we get to an anthropogenic global warming scam, eco-thugs, and attempted takeover of our economy?

Is there a reason those behind the first Earth Day chose to celebrate it on the 100th anniversary of the birth of that great Marxist, Vladimir Lenin?

As the saying goes, there are no coincidences.

During that first Earth Day man was proclaimed the polluter and would remain as such for subsequent observances that decade.  By the Eighties the event’s organizers cast man as the tree killer, and, with the Nineties, man evolved into the animal species annihilator.  The global warming scare never really became popular until the late Nineties, and when it did, it provided a hook that the compatriots at the Earth Day headquarters could hang their red berets on.  Known as anthropogenic global warming, it was a sexy sell: humans-particularly Americans-were now screwing up the entire planet’s weather.  By 2000 Earth Day organizers took ownership of this new angle and would never let go.  Sussman

Brian Sussman’s very interesting article is instructive on the agenda behind eco-movers, and why the House-passed cap and trade tax has less to do with saving the environment than it does with income redistribution.  The American Clean Energy and Security Act, scheduled for discussion in the Senate the day after Sunday’s Earth Day celebrations, shows the movement’s true agenda.

For example, buried on pages 1014-1016 of the bill is the “Monthly Energy Refund.” According to this trick, for those with a gross income that “does not exceed 150 percent of the poverty line … a direct deposit” of an undisclosed amount of money will be sent “into the eligible household’s designated bank account[.]

On pages 502-503 we find the “Low Income Community Energy Efficiency Program,” whereby grants will be issued “to increase the flow of capital and benefits to low income communities, minority-owned and woman-owned businesses and entrepreneurs[.]“

Further proving that this is actually a welfare scheme, on page 973 we discover that for workers who lose their manufacturing jobs because the caps on their companies are too repressive and their employer either has to shut down or move operations to the third world to avoid regulation, the “adversely affected worker” shall receive 70 percent of his prior weekly wage, “payable for a period not longer than 156 weeks.” In addition, on pages 986-987 we read that the unemployed worker can submit up to $1,500 in job search reimbursements and get another $1,500 to cover his moving expenses.

And then there are the new federally mandated building codes, which will supersede local rules and regulations. The new codes will be enforced by what I refer to in Climategate as a “green goon squad.” On pages 319-324 of the House bill we read that the Secretary of Energy “shall enhance compliance by conducting training and education of builders and other professionals in the jurisdiction concerning the national energy efficiency building code.”  These EPA badge-wearing G-Men will be funded through global warming revenues procured through the cap-and-trade scheme, as well as by $25 million designated annually from the Department of Energy “to provide necessary enforcement of a national energy efficiency building code[.]“

Kiss more of your freedom goodbye if this bill passes.  Meanwhile, teach your children not to blindly believe all the eco-babble they bring home from school about loving Mother Earth and saving the environment.

Tell Us What You Really Think, Jack

This is from CNN, not that right wing Fox News. Is it now safe to say what you really think since it is obvious the people are turning on the Dems?

The Gore Effect Strikes Again

Posted by Nancy on December 19, 2009

Poor Al Gore.  Every time there is a major climate summit anywhere in the world the weather (not to be confused with the “climate”) manages to thumb its nose at the theory of manmade global warming.

Today we had the spectacle of Obama announcing his Copenahagen agreement while TV channels ran loops of their top story of the day - one of the top ten winter storms of all recorded history is dropping up to two feet of snow on Washington D.C.  And Baltimore, Boston, and New York, plus the remainder of the eastern seaboard.

Oh, and that snow on the beach at Nice, France?  It’s not really that uncommon to have snow on the French Riviera in December, is it?

Seems this may be their first recorded snow EVER for this date.

But I feel so much better, knowing our president has committed us to throwing away spending billions in reparations to third world countries for our contribution to climate change.  Right.

Climategate, Smoking Guns, and the Liberal Mind

Posted by Nancy on December 12, 2009

I have been a global warming skeptic for years, and have followed those who are more learned about it than I as they search for answers about it all.  I enjoy the presentations and discussions on sites like Climate Audit,  Watts Up With That Small Dead AnimalsMinnesotansFor Global Warming (great Christmas album spoof there), and others.  Scientists willingly toss ideas back and forth and discuss holes in the theory of anthropogenic global warming at these places, and teach us all in the process.

Then on November 19 emails from the CRU (Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia in Great Britain) were released to the public, most likely by someone on the inside with a conscience.  The mainstream media have done everything they can to bury this story, but it won’t go away.  It is the biggest science fraud of the century – perhaps of all time – and the discussions on my favorite science blogs have gotten even more interesting.

With the code information released along with those emails, skeptical scientists can now see just how much fraud has been used to prove the “settled science” of global warming.  Even I can see that the books have been cooked.

An example:

Credit:  http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/12/08/the-smoking-gun-at-darwin-zero/

This is a record of temperatures taken at Darwin Airport in Australia.  Note the records of raw data are in blue, the “adjusted” temperatures in red, and the accompanying trendlines in green and purple.  That blue line sure makes it look like it was warmer in early parts of last century than it is now, but that doesn’t fit the AGW mold.

The blue line is composed of five separate sets of data that all agreed, so why on earth would anyone feel the need to “adjust” it – unless they were manipulating the data to prove a preconceived theory?  And those black stair steps are the adjustments, which show how artificially the data was manipulated.

So, other than the main stream media trying to pretend none of this is happening, what is this doing to those who believe we must all work to prevent earth’s imminent incineration from global warming?

Have you talked to any liberals about this lately?

I have, and it isn’t pretty.

There is no hope on the horizon when trying to have a discussion of facts devolves into ”The emails were released without permission.”  The liberal doesn’t care what is in them, just that they were “hacked.”  Never mind that they fall under Freedom of Information Act guidelines and should have been publicly available anyhow.  The fact that they were released without permission makes everything in them irrelevant and/or unreliable, even though they have been proven to be authentic.

If you can get past the red herring of their being released without permission, the liberal mind then says he doesn’t agree with the facts you are presenting.  They don’t really say anything new.  They don’t prove anything.  You must be misinterpreting them.  Those emails were just informal jokes between friends, anyway.  Or my favorite – “You believe your facts and I’ll believe mine.”

Don’t try to ask what facts they’re believing, because there aren’t any.  It is all emotion and their willing things to be the way they believe them to be.

You can see it on the news every day.  With straight faces, newscasters give stories about the dangers of global warming and how progress must be made at Copenhagen to save us all from devastation.  You know they know about Climategate, but they pretend it isn’t happening.

Then the weather reporte announces a major early storm that is paralyzing a third of the country.

That’s the Al Gore Effect.  It comes into play almost without fail, every time there is a major climate change conference anywhere in the world.

God must have a wicked sense of humor.

Climategate Explained

Posted by Nancy on December 6, 2009

As a non-scientist having followed the controversy around AGW for several years,  this article explains the fraud involved better than anything else I have read.

Close followers of the Climategate controversy know that much of the mêlée surrounds an email in which Climate Research Unit (CRU) chief Phil Jones wrote about using “Mike’s Nature Trick” (MNT) to “hide the decline.”

And yet, 17 days and thousands of almost exclusively on-line op-eds into this scandal, it still seems very few understand exactly which “decline” was being hidden, what “trick” was used to do so, and why Jones’s words have become the slogan for the greatest scientific fraud in history. [snip]

First and foremost — contrary to what you’ve likely read elsewhere in the blogosphere or heard from the few policymakers and pundits actually addressing the issue, it was not the temperature decline the planet has been experiencing since 1998 that Jones and friends conspired to hide…

In fact, the decline Jones so urgently sought to hide was not one of measured temperatures at all, but rather figures infinitely more important to climate alarmists – those determined by proxy reconstructions. As this scandal has attracted new readers to the subject, I ask climate savvy readers to indulge me while I briefly explain climate proxies, as they are an essential ingredient of this contemptible conspiracy.

Read the whole article.  Marc Sheppard outlines the whole fraud using CRU’s and IPCC’s own graphs and figures, with references to leaked emails and computer code supporting his analysis.  He brings the whole thing into focus with crystal clarity.

I can understand why undeveloped nations of the world would want to buy into demanding reparations from the developed nations, but would someone please explain why leaders of our country are willing to go along with this fraudulent scheme?

After all, the stakes are enormous – perhaps trillions of dollars and unquestionably every American’s personal liberties.  Tomorrow, over 20,000 delegates from 193 nations will gather in Copenhagen to craft an agreement which would not only force American power consumption to levels equal to those of about 1910, but would also have us pay reparations for an imaginary “climate debt” we’ve accumulated by building the world’s greatest economy of all time.  That debt is based on the amount of CO2 our financial growth has purportedly pumped into the atmosphere, which, according to the conclusions of the IPCC, based largely upon reports from the CRU, has selfishly imperiled the planet by inducing climate change.

Of course, asking Americans to pay reparations based on the claim they’ve done harm to other nations by spoiling the climate is like asking me to pay damages to my neighbor based on his claim that he can’t sell his house because my great-grandmother’s ghost is haunting it.

As many have known and Climategate has proven, either would be equally preposterous.

But at least belief in ghosts is only marginally inspired by fraud.

Then there’s this video clip from a live BBC interveiw.  Nothing like accusing the other side of character assassination before calling your debate opponent an a***ole on live TV. Prof. Andrew Watson of the University of East Anglia, whose emails are among those that were recently hacked and released, is obviously not happy with Marc Morano from Climate Depot.

The BBC later issued an on-air apology.

You Need To Be More Careful With Your Secrets

Posted by Nancy on November 25, 2009

So much to write about, and so little time.  Where do I start?  ClimateGate or Acorn’s document dump?  Both involve public airing of documents the organizations involved didn’t want anyone to see - probably because in both cases we are now witnessing the undoing of utter frauds.

It’s almost a shame these two stories are hitting at the same time, since they both deserve our undivided attention.  Did I mention they are both massive frauds?  Let’s touch on global warming first.

From MinnesotansForGlobalWarming we have the following ditty, about hiding the data that show worldwide temperatures declining over the past decade.  Catchy.

Of course the media are completely ignoring this scandal of scientific fraud, falsification, collusion, and corruption, verified by thousands of emails and data files from CRU at East Anglia University.  If you aren’t following this story you really should, since the cap and trade tax scheme our government wants to burden us with will be massive.  A good place to follow this story is at Watts Up With That , or at Big Government , which just coincidenatlly is also awash with stories and pictures of documents from ACORN’s data dump in San Diego.

The ACORN documents became public knowledge just a few days ago, but the private investigator who has them retrieved them from a dumpster Oct. 9.   He dug out a Suburban full of documents.  Twenty thousand documents.  He says he has been back since and gotten more, as apparently ACORN continues throwing them away.  Most surprisingly he says he found a paper with his name and contact information on it among documents he retrieved later, indicating that someone in the office had gotten word of him by then.

If you haven’t been following Big Government, you might want to take a peek at a few of these articles/documents.

Then there’s the  Oklahoma Data Dump too.

ACORN really should have hired more competent help.

For All The Global Warming Freaks

Posted by Nancy on November 22, 2009

I have followed global warming for several years now, diligently trying to understand the science of it.  I’m no climate scientist so it has been a struggle, but it became clear a while back that there is something drastically wrong with all the global warming hype.

This weekend it all hit the proverbial fan, with the hacking and release of thousands of emails and files from the Hadley climate facility in England, one of the word leaders in the field.  I have read a few of the emails, and if authentic they are damning.  Coercion, collusion, and corruption in the ethers of global warming supporters.  Will this finally put a stake in the heart of the beast?

In a comment made on Climate Audit, a programmer says the code behind some of the programs is even more damning than the emails between the scientists.  There’s a very interesting article about it at WattsUpWithThat.

The media are pretending there is nothing to look at here, just move along; but then the eamils also show the media have been complicit in this fraud all along.   They can no longer embargo stories that are inconvenient and wait for them to disappear.  Thanks to the internet the truth will out.

Global Warming, the Sun, and God

Posted by Nancy on October 27, 2009

Okay, God won’t really enter into this post, but I’ll give Him credit for slowing down the insanity coming from the warming enthusiasts.   It’s now ten years and counting of steady or falling temperatures worldwide.

Oh wait, that’s where the sun comes in.   Not fully understood, there is a correlation between the sun’s energy and the earth’s temperature.  It shines on us and we get warm; it has sun spots and gets more active and puts out more energy and we get warmer.  And that current lengthy period of no sun spots? – it gets lengthier every day.  And trends cooler.

Maybe that’s why it’s no longer called global warming, but “climate change.”  You can’t go wrong with that one, because the weather is always changing.  And if you claim that any changes in weather mean man is evil and destroying the earth, you can’t go wrong, can you?

Meanwhile, the global warming summit in Copenhagen is only weeks away and the U.S. Congress seems to have come to some semblance of sanity by not passing cap and trade or any sweeping legislation to save the planet leading up to it.  Dare I hope this continues?

Poor U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who made a climate treaty his top priority, has had to scale back expectations for a comprehensive climate treaty to steal money from developed countries save the earth when they all Kum-By-Ya in Copenhagen.  At least he’s encouraged by the “strong commitment of the Obama administration,” bless their hearts.  And he’s in the U.S. right now, encouraging our political leaders to get on board.

While the adults head feint and pretend man can control the weather, what is all this doing to the children?  Isn’t that supposed to be our primary concern, the children?  Everything the government does is for “the children,” right?

In this case, what they are doing borders on child abuse.

Someone recently left a comment on the all-time most viewed post on this blog, and it sure looks like it came from a child to me.

I wish people would just listen. I’m so mad that people don’t even care about the polar bears and that the sea level is rising. And also that the plants are dead because of us. If we don’t do something about it then we all are going to die with them. I just wish there was a way to stop the global warming.

Last week global warmers in New Zealand suggested we get edible pets, and this week Climate chief Lord Stern from London tells us we have to give up eating meat.  And the brainwashed children think we are all going to die.

Call your congressman and your senator.  Tell them to fight against this insanity and stop frightening our children, and for God’s sake don’t vote for a destructive cap and trade bill.

After all, it is God who controls the weather, not man.
