Dr. Kermit Gosnell, Keeping Abortion Safe and Legal

Posted by Nancy on January 19, 2011

A Grand Jury in Philadelphia has released its report and recommendations on Dr. Kermit Gosnell, abortionist.  You can read it here, but it comes with a strong warning – it is not for the squeamish or faint of heart.  Here is how it begins:

This case is about a doctor who killed babies and endangered women.  What we mean is that he regularly and illegally delivered live, viable babies in the third trimester of pregnancy – and then murdered these newborns by severing their spinal cords with scissors.  The medical practice by which he carried out this business was a filthy fraud in which he overdosed his patients with dangerous drugs, spread venereal disease among them with infected instruments, perforated their wombs and bowels – and, on at least two occasions, caused their deaths.  Philadelphia Grand Jury Report, p.1

It then goes into detail.  Over 250 pages of detail if you count the charges recommended by the jury .

Dr. Gosnell’s practice may have been a “filthy fraud,” but it was lucrative; one year he earned over $1.5 million.  Specializing in late term abortions that other doctors would not do, he set up his practice relying on the actions of unqualified employees in his absence.  It was they who administered the drugs to induce labor and the drugs to sedate patients into a stupor, while he showed up many hours later to complete the abortions.

Sometimes babies did not deliver and had to be removed by the doctor, with calamitous results.  In one instance Dr. Gosnell tore a patient’s cervix and colon and doctors in a hospital had to remove almost half a foot of her intestines.  In another he perforated a 19-year-old’s uterus requiring a hysterectomy.  He sent another patient home with fetal parts remaining insider her, and she was near death by the time she was admitted to the hospital.  Yet no one investigated Kermit Gosnell.

Pennsylvania is not a third-world country.  There were several oversight agencies that stumbled upon and should have shut down Kermit Gosnell long ago.  But none of them did, not even after Karnamaya Mongar’s death*.  In the end, Gosnell was only caught by accident, when police raided his offices to seize evidence of his illegal prescription selling.  Once law enforcement agents went in, they couldn’t help noticing the disgusting conditions, the dazed patients, the discarded fetuses.  That is why the complete regulatory collapse that occurred here is so inexcusable.  It should have taken only one look.  Philadelphia Grand Jury Report, p.8

The reason for that “complete regulatory collapse” is the politics of abortion.  In 1993 Pennsylvania stopped all inspections of abortion clinics so as not to put any barriers in the way of a woman’s right to have an abortion.  Once law enforcement agents became involved with the doctor and the press took notice the Department of Health suddenly discarded that philosophy and shut the clinic down within a week.

The Grand Jury Report recommends Kermit Gosnell be charged with seven counts of murder, two counts of infancticide, and numerous counts of other crimes, while regretting that he cannot be charged for the innumerable unproven murders staffers say they witnessed at his hands.

Four of his staffers are also being charged, most for committing murder at the clinic in the same manner he taught them.

Officials from the Pennsylvania Department of Health have now “lawyered up” with attorneys from a high priced law firm.  At taxpayer expense, of course.

*  When Karnamay Mongar stopped breathing on Dr. Gosnell’s operating table, likely from an overdose of Demerol, his staff eventually called paramedics who transported her to a hospital where she was declared dead.  No one investigated the doctor or his clinic, and he continued performing abortions.

Obama Golfs While the Gulf Bleeds Oil

Posted by Nancy on June 13, 2010

Obama spent another four hours on the golf course today while news on the oil spill gusher in the Gulf of Mexico keeps getting worse.

Did you wonder, like I did, why BP cut off the top of the pipe and let the oil flow out faster?  Doesn’t seem to make sense.  But then, I don’t know anything about drilling oil wells.  On the other hand, dougr at The Oil Drum seems to understand a lot and writes an article that can only be described as frightening.

It is his opinion that BP cut the top of the pipe off to take pressure off damaged pipes under the sea floor.  He calls that kind of underground damage a worst case scenario, which will lead to total collapse of the well and very little chance of sealing it off.

All of these things lead to only one place, a fully wide open well bore directly to the oil deposit…after that, it goes into the realm of “the worst things you can think of” The well may come completely apart as the inner liners fail. There is still a very long drill string in the well, that could literally come flying out…as I said…all the worst things you can think of are a possibility, but the very least damaging outcome as bad as it is, is that we are stuck with a wide open gusher blowing out 150,000 barrels a day of raw oil or more. There isn’t any “cap dome” or any other suck fixer device on earth that exists or could be built that will stop it from gushing out and doing more and more damage to the gulf. While at the same time also doing more damage to the well, making the chance of halting it with a kill from the bottom up less and less likely to work, which as it stands now?….is the only real chance we have left to stop it all.

It’s a race now…a race to drill the relief wells and take our last chance at killing this monster before the whole weakened, wore out, blown out, leaking and failing system gives up it’s last gasp in a horrific crescendo…

We can only hope the race against that eventuality is one we can win, but my assessment I am sad to say is that we will not.

The system will collapse or fail substantially before we reach the finish line ahead of the well and the worst is yet to come.

Meanwhile, BP is doing a “seabed integrity scan” amid speculation the entire underground oil reservoir of over 2 billion gallons of oil will bleed out, taking years to do so and causing the seabed to collapse in that area.

If he’s right………. No, just pray he’s wrong.   Read the article here.

Will You Stand With Arizona?

Posted by necessarygrace on April 27, 2010

The outcry has begun. Marches that look more like riots and swastikas smeared in refried beans (I kid you not) on the capitol building in Phoenix; Al Sharpton’s calling for “freedom walkers” while some want Major League Baseball to move its scheduled 2011 All-Star Game from Chase Field in Arizona and others call for a boycott of Arizona itself.

You’d never know that a full 70% of Arizona voters actually favor the new law.

You’d also never know from most of the media coverage that all the new law does is codify the current US laws. In fact, it goes farther to protect minorities from racial profiling than does the federal statute. The difference? Arizona actually plans to enforce their law.

We can’t let the 23% speak for us. If you agree that Arizona has a right and a responsibility to protect their citizens, you need to make your voice heard. How?

-> Sign this petition: We Stand With Arizona, and Against Illegal Immigration. And then if you’re very brave (or just feel like messing with your liberal FB friends),  join the facebook group too.

-> Plan an Arizona vacation. It’s a beautiful state, and now, thanks to the new law, a safer place to visit.

-> Look for food grown in Arizona. “Arizona ranks 2nd nationally in it’s production of cantaloupe & honeydew melons, head & leaf lettuce, spinach, broccoli and cauliflower and lemons.”

-> Tell Major League Baseball to stay out of politics and keep the All Star Game in Arizona.

It’s time that our laws meant something and that Americans stood up for what is right. Don’t let Mexico and the fringe left win this debate. Speak up. Be heard. Make a difference.

Differing Opinions

Posted by necessarygrace on April 24, 2010

Arizona’s governor just signed a new law toughening up that state’s immigration regulations, including the requirement that non-citizens carry proof that they legally entered our country.  Portions of the law directly mirror current federal laws that are simply not being enforced.

As a border state, Arizona is on the front lines of a war being fought against drug lords and mexican mafia which is escalating by the day while our federal government sits on its hands. The most recent casualty in this war hit the national headlines last month, when an Arizona rancher was gunned down on his own land.

Things have gotten so bad in Arizona that even MSNBC had to report on it last year.

Arizona is an attractive target for drug smugglers, because it sits atop a geographic funnel in northwestern Mexico. With the Gulf of California to the west, the Sierra Madre Mountains to the east and a vast illicit drug production area to the south, the Mexican plains lying just south of Arizona are a natural staging area for traffickers bound for the United States.

“The cartels have found this is the most lucrative place to come in the United States,” said Coulson. “We’re fighting a corporation, an entity that has resources of $10 billion at their disposal.” The DEA estimates that the drug cartels generate about $10 billion annually from the sale of drugs whcih pass through Arizona alone. …

American authorities have seen smugglers use a variety of methods to sneak drugs into the U.S. Often the cartels employ a virtual army of hikers, each of whom carries at least a 40-pound load of marijuana across the desert floor in a homemade burlap knapsack. They stash their loads on the U.S. side, where the drugs are then picked up by transporters.

Ranchers living in fear. Drugs smuggled in through a “virtual army of hikers”. And the federal government does nothing, because it’s politically incorrect to point out that these people are coming from Mexico. So the state of Arizona does what it has to do to protect it’s own citizens – the most basic responsibility of any government – and is immediately accused of racial profiling.

I understand that concern. Racial profiling has been used against blacks, latinos and probably every other race (including the Irish and other Europeans, if we look back in our history far enough) and is a serious type of harrassment that should never be tolerated.

The Governor of Arizona agrees.

Let me be clear, though: My signature today represents my steadfast support for enforcing the law — both AGAINST illegal immigration AND against racial profiling.

This legislation mirrors federal laws regarding immigration enforcement.

Despite erroneous and misleading statements suggesting otherwise, the new state misdemeanor crime of willful failure to complete or carry an alien registration document is adopted, verbatim, from the same offense found in federal statute.

I will NOT tolerate racial discrimination or racial profiling in Arizona.

Because I feel so strongly on this subject, I worked for weeks with legislators to amend SB 1070, to
strengthen its civil rights protections.
That effort led to new language in the bill, language prohibiting law enforcement officers from “solely considering race, color, or national origin in implementing the requirements of this section…”

The bill already required that it “shall be implemented in a manner consistent with federal laws regulating immigration, protecting the civil rights of all persons and respecting the privileges and
immunities of United States citizens.”

While the general protection was already included, I believe the issue is so important, we needed to make it CRYSTAL clear.

And I believe that we need to more than simply inscribe it in statute.

Words in a law book are of no use if our police officers are not properly trained on the provisions of SB 1070, including its civil rights provisions.

Today I am issuing an executive order directing the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board – AZPOST — to develop training to appropriately implement SB 1070.

Importantly, this training will include what DOES – and DOES NOT – constitute “reasonable suspicion” that a person is not legally present in the United States.

This law will not be put into effect until later this summer. It remains to be seen how effective it will be at fighting crime and whether it will result in any inappropriate profiling. Some people are very happy about this law, believing something has to be done. Others are angry, believing the “rights” of immigrants (illegal or legal) outweigh all else. Interestingly, it is this latter group who also believes that only their side has the right to express their opinion.

Isn’t it interesting, that the very same people who fight so hard for the “rights” of people who are in our country illegally don’t believe their fellow Americans have the right to express a differring opinion? Worse, this attitude has been expressed in regards to nearly every issue where Conservatives take a stand. Those who opposed Obamacare were painted as racist instead of recognizing our very real concerns about government overreach. Those who stood up against the so-called Stimulous because of concerns about the massive increase in the federal budget and lack of any actual job-creation were unfeeling louts who didn’t want to help their fellow man. I could go on and on. Why is it that the very same people who for the last forty years have rallied and demonstrated at the drop of a hat, always espousing the importance of free speech and dissent suddenly believe we should all fall in line and bow to Obama and the democratic party? Consider the words of leftist icon, Noam Chomsky: “If we don’t believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don’t believe in it at all.” Is that still true, Liberals? Or have the rules of the game changed now that the “radicals” are in charge?

Chris Matthews Said WHAT?

Check out Jon Stewart’s response to Chris Matthews’ stunning proclamation… {warning: this clip is most definitely NOT politically correct. It is, however, extremely funny.}

Reform? Right.

Posted by liloladenvers on December 21, 2009

This is how I feel today, almost.  I”m not alone, 60% of the people in this country are with me, but the tanks of Congress keep rolling over us with the healthcare bill.  The Dems in the Senate who disagreed with some portion of the bill have been bought and paid for.  They let their voicemail boxes stay full so they wouldn’t have to listen to any more protests.  They ignored the emails flooding in, the turned a blind eye to the protesters outside and the constituents inside their office building pleading with them to stop.  There is no crisis that can be stayed by passage before Christmas, there is nothing, NOTHING, in the bill that will give more affordable, easier to obtain health care to anyone in the next three years.

So, I am dressed all in black today, head to toe.  In mourning ( I hope prematurely) for our country, our flag and our way of life.  Too many bills denying our freedoms, the greatest of which is this garbage filled health care bill.

Obama’s Bizarre Press Conference on Ft. Hood Shootings

Posted by Nancy on November 6, 2009

When viewed from the very beginning, the press conference Obama held to decry the violence at Ft. Hood is nothing short of bizarre.  He spends the first two-and-a-half minutes congratulating his administration over a Native American conference and giving a shout out to an attendee, then slurs into the shooting without any kind of break to change topic.  Not even a stop for a new sentence.

He also reads. every. single. word of his speech about the shooting.  Watch as he keeps looking down at the podium (were the teleprompters broken?).

Can you imagine how the MSM would be covering this if it had been given by a Republican president?

Where are the military men and women in this man’s priorities?

Sarah Palin on The Tea Party Movement

Posted by necessarygrace on September 24, 2009

From her incredible speech at an investment conference in Hong Kong Wednesday:

When members of America’s greatest generation – the World War II generation – lose their homes and their life savings because their retirement funds were wiped after the financial collapse, people feel a great anger. There is suddenly a growing sentiment to just “throw the bums out” of Washington, D.C. – and by bums they mean the Republicans and the Democrats. Americans are suffering from pay cuts and job losses, and they want to know why their elected leaders are not tightening their belts. It’s not lost on people that Congress voted to exempt themselves from the health care plan they are thrusting on the rest of the nation. There is a growing sense of frustration on Main Street. But even in the midst of crisis and despair, we see signs of hope.

In fact, it’s a sea change in America, I believe. Recently, there have been protests by ordinary Americans who marched on Washington to demand their government stop spending away their future. Large numbers of ordinary, middle-class Democrats, Republicans, and Independents from all over the country marching on Washington?! You know something’s up!

These are the same people who flocked to the town halls this summer to face their elected officials who were home on hiatus from that distant capital and were now confronted with the people they represent. Big town hall meetings – video clips circulating coverage – people watching, feeling not so alone anymore.

The town halls and the Tea Party movement are both part of a growing grassroots consciousness among ordinary Americans who’ve decided that if they want real change, they must take the lead and not wait to be led. Real change – and, you know, you don’t need a title to do it.

The “Tea Party Movement” is aptly named to remind people of the American Revolution – of colonial patriots who shook off the yoke of a distant government and declared their freedom from indifferent – elitist – rulers who limited their progress and showed them no respect. Today, Main Street Americans see Washington in similar terms.

When my country again achieves financial stability and economic growth – when we roar back to life as we shall do – it will be thanks in large part to the hard work and common sense of these ordinary Americans who are demanding that government spend less and tax less and allow the private sector to grow and prosper.

We’re not interested in government fixes; we’re interested in freedom! Freedom! Our vision is forward looking. People may be frustrated now, but we’re very hopeful too.

And, after all, why shouldn’t we be? We’re Americans. We’re always hopeful.

(Taken from an excerpt posted on Former Governor Palin’s Facebook Page. The Wall Street Journal also has excerpts from the speech posted on their blog.)

Are You Following Breitbart?

Posted by necessarygrace on September 21, 2009

When filmmaker and provocateur James O’Keefe came to my office to show me the video of him and his friend, Hannah Giles, going to the Baltimore offices of ACORN – the nation’s foremost “community organizers” – dressed as a pimp and a prostitute and asking for – and getting – help for various illegal activities, he sought my advice.

Breitbart is the genius behind the release of the Acorn sting tapes… and apparently a whole lot more. According to his website, Big Hollywood another big story will be coming out at noon today. I for one will be glued to my computer, because if there’s one thing Andrew Breitbart has shown in the last week or so, it’s this: In the age of the internet, it doesn’t matter how many network execs and newspapers Obama has in his pocket, so long as there are real journalists left in the world, the truth will come out.

(For more hints about today’s big story, read his post, Pregame Report: The NEA Conference Call.)
